The last question in tonight’s presidential debate came from “Peggy” in Amherst, NH.

“What don’t you know and how will you learn it.”

    Peggy Silva is the only Peggy I know in Amherst NH. She's an English and writing teacher at Souhegan High School and I immediately thought it sounded just like her. I'm sure there are other Peggy's in the area though.

    Of all the questions to ask, a once in a lifetime opportunity and a question as lame as that was presented. Why not ask what they plan to do with our open boarders, the illegal’s literally invading our country? Why not ask how they plan to maintain our way of life? Why not ask about the homosexual issue that is spreading across the country like a disease; gay marriage is on the ballot in California and causing a great deal of consternation within the churches and their congregations throughout the state. Why not ask B. O. about the associates like Bill Ayres, Rev. Wright, etc. that he is so friendly with? So many questions of such great importance and the opportunity is wasted on “What don’t you know and how will you learn it.” No wonder this country is on its way down, look at the intelligence level.

    You have an incredible gall to say, after such an embarrassing performance, that you are “having great fun with my two seconds of presidential fame.” The realization that you are a teacher further solidifies my understanding of what is happening with the education level that is taking place in this nation. You squandered your opportunity, then make light of it as you walk around proclaiming pride. You may not be embarrassed but I am embarrassed for you, I am embarrassed for this country that had to hear you ask such a frivolous, nonsensical question.

    "mrdunkan2k", as a former student of Peggy Silva and someone that greatly benefited from her guidance and wisdom at Souhegan high school, I can tell you from personal experience that she represents everything that's going right with public education in America. She is completely dedicated to her students, helping them develop academically and also as citizens. She often employed questions in her classes similar to the one in the debate. They are questions that require some introspection and thoughtfulness to respond, and often expose a person's more basic beliefs and perceptions (rather than the rhetoric that occupies the majority of politics). It would have been really revealing to see both candidates answer Peggy's question. It is a shame that neither did. It was not a squandered question, but two squandered answers. Maybe a question about a candidate's limits and how they will overcome them requires a little too much candor for politics, but it certainly is not frivolous and nonsensical. I guess it could seem that way for someone looking to write knee-jerk comments though.
