Maps are funDamon | 14 January, 2007 07:36 | (522)
Ok - maybe fun is not the right word in all cases, but for Web publishers, some of the new tools being produced certainly are handy.
The latest on the street - Atlas makes it really easy to create a Google Map, specify some options, and then easily copy-paste the code directly into any Web page. This type of functionality has been around is some form for a year or so, but Atlas also has some interactive features meant to let people post comments and edit the map Wiki-style. That has some potential, so I am trying it out below.
One of the main issues I have seen with competing mapping sites is that if you give them a geographic location by longitude and latitude, their "location" of that spot can be off by half a mile or more, while others are absolutely accurate. Posted by: Donald Dillaby | January 15, 2007, 07:58
Damon -- Thanks for trying out Atlas. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please let me know. We'd love to know how we can make it more useful for you. Best,
Donald - Accuracy is definitely an issue. One of the advantages to using them on a local basis is hopefully we know the area well enough to realize that Baboosic Lake Road does not run through the middle of the lake. Can't promise we will be perfect about it - but a human touch can definitely help the technology along a bit. Posted by: Damon | January 15, 2007, 13:05searcharchives
