Feeling bridal
Filed under Uncategorized by donna roberson at 12:35 pm
This weekend was peppered with bridal stuff. Nothing really makes you realize how much you’ve let yourself go as much as the endless appointments for haircuts, facials, manicures and such that fill the weeks before your wedding.
Two highlights of the weekend was trying on my almost-complete wedding dress. That was a trip. I love the dress, but I was blown away by how bridal I felt. I absolutely didn’t want to take the dress off, despite the need for things like a hem and trim. It was the first time I had tried on the dress and it looked like a dress, rather than pieces of fabric pinned together. I go again this weekend and can’t wait to see the progress on it!
Fair warning: Moms and bridesmaids often tear up here, even if you’re feeling fine, so be prepared for some water.
Also this weekend I put together gift bags for everyone who booked a hotel room - at 42 hotel rooms that was no small feat. My mom and I went shopping for water and some snacks to put in the bags and added in a guidebook and map of Portland, which the Chamber of Commerce provides free of charge.
If you’re having a destination wedding - or even have a lot of people coming from out of town - utilize the local chamber of commerce. They’ll often provide guides and maps for your guests completely free of charge. They’ll also help you locate inexpensive, quality vendors in the area, which can cut costs while maintaining style.
Anyway, I arrived home Saturday night in that monsoon, and immediately dragged Ed to Maine to drop off the bags at the hotel. They’re holding them for the duration and will put them in each room for the guests to enjoy. OK, Ed wasn’t expecting to make a trip to Maine in a storm at 7 p.m. on a Saturday night, but he knows I’m uptight and couldn’t ride around with gift bags cluttering up my car for a week without going nuts, so he was pretty mellow about the upset to his weekend.
And we’re pretty much done. Two weeks out, it’s now mostly about getting the dress finished up and getting up there. Having it all done in advance means I’ll be able to spend more time enjoying the wedding.
By the way, if you check out Brides.com tomorrow, designer Oscar de la Renta will be making an appearance on the site to give readers advice on bridal dress styles and fine jewelry and ideas for city, country and island weddings.
