The wedding was fabulous! We had a gorgeous day to get married on a boat, my dress came out beautifully, and the food and the music was great.
There were some minor snafus: The minister forgot to include a few parts of the wedding ceremony, a few people missed the boat, and Ed decided he wanted to break glass at the end of the wedding at the last minute. Of course, I cut my foot stomping on glass.
But no one fell overboard, there were no family fights and my nephews (at 4 and 2) were the first ones on the dance floor and danced the night away. By the end of the night, everyone was dancing - so much so that the entire floor of the pub was shaking.
The pub was outstanding. Since the space we rented was divided into several rooms, people who wanted to catch up could get away from the music and talk while others went into another room to dance. Also, inviting everyone to the rehearsal dinner worked out, since people got a chance to meet each other before the actual wedding. People actually sat and talked with people they had just met and exchanged e-mail addresses. Several people said it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to.
So, yes, we were lucky enough to enjoy our own wedding. I wish the wedding would come around every few years so we could party all over again.
And Ed surprised me with a honeymoon on the coast of England. After flying into London, we took a train to Paris for the day. When we returned, we hopped on a train and traveled through the English countryside to St. Ives, a town on the western coast of England. We spent most of our time relaxing.
We also used postcards we bought on the trip as thank you notes so people could see where we had been.
This will be my last blog, since I had set out to blog about my wedding. Thank you for reading! I leave you with pictures of the wedding.
Well, today is my last day at The Telegraph before the wedding on Saturday. We’re almost there.
Tonight, I’m picking up my wedding dress, and Friday Ed and I leave for Maine. Tomorrow will mostly be spent cleaning the house, packing and doing all the other things I’m sure I have forgotten to do.
Then, it’s off [...]
It’s true. I am close enough to my wedding to actually get the weather forecast (gulp). I mean the real weather forecast, not something where I can look at the average highs and lows for a season and hope for the best. For your information, we’re looking at mid-60s and sunny.
So what am I doing [...]
That pretty much describes it. We’re about a week - well, a week and two days - away from the big day, and all I really want to do is sleep. Even though we’re pretty much all set, I’m still running around like a nut doing things like getting my hair cut and such. I [...]
This weekend was peppered with bridal stuff. Nothing really makes you realize how much you’ve let yourself go as much as the endless appointments for haircuts, facials, manicures and such that fill the weeks before your wedding.
Two highlights of the weekend was trying on my almost-complete wedding dress. That was a trip. I love the [...]
No, I’m not talking about the dress, I’m talking about the budget.
Ed and I are definitely feeling the effects of high gas prices and the new mortgage, so we’ve been very cautious in what we’ll splurge on for the wedding, and we’ve eliminated some extras, like the gifts at the wedding.
The Boston Globe as a [...]
Ed and I headed to Portland this weekend to finalize the details of our wedding. Of course, I was late to start the day, so we were 45 minutes late to meet the photographer (I didn’t have his number and couldn’t call him) and spent the rest of the day scrambling. I would say if [...]
So, I had my bachelorette party last weekend. And while it didn’t involve strippers or a scavenger hunt, we had a blast.
My bridemaids — who have been amazing about planning, since my maids of honor are teens — got together and rented a hotel room in Boston. They staged a surprise pick-up on Saturday with [...]
So it was close, but we pulled it off . . . Ed and I will be having our rehearsal dinner at the original place we chose — the Flabread Company.
While there’s about seven stores, the restaurant in portland is full of wood, exposed pipes and a gorgeous stone oven, where chefs cook fresh, organic [...]
In six weeks, I’ll be married. It’s actually starting to sink in a little bit. When I got engaged more than a year ago, I thought the day would take forever to get here. Now I’ve got six weeks left to finish things up.
So what am I doing six weeks before the wedding? Mostly now [...]
