It’s an honest question. I hear people complaining about the coverage of the beleaguered pop star, but it also seems to be among the most widely read topics on most pop-culture sites I visit.

Is the media creating the frenzy or feeding it?

I can’t watch or read the coverage anymore. I don’t know whether to feel bad for her, feel that she created her own messes, laugh sadly at some of the high-jinks or just roll my eyes. Mostly, I just want to avert my eyes, like you do when you pass a fatal car crash. Not the smaller, rubber-necking kind where you can see the drivers and their passengers sitting dazedly on the curb, but the truly horrific ones that catch in your throat because you know just from a peripheral glance that no one got out alive.
