Reality Shows and Mom

Filed under Uncategorized by peter jennings at 10:12 pm

So I was watching Dancing With The Stars last night with my mom - by the way, there are few moments that make a man examine his life more than when he realizes he’s sitting on the couch watching a bunch of C-level "stars" dance poorly, while his mom sits on the couch next to him, laughing at sexual inuendo quips from Tom Bergeron.  But the brownies she made me were just so damn delicious.

So anyways, I’m watching the show when I hear one of the hosts of the show say "This has been the most newsworthy season of Dancing With The Stars yet."  Now maybe it’s because I work for a newspaper, maybe it’s because my name is Peter Jennings, or maybe it’s because I’m reeeeally smart, but I am going to go out on a limb and say there hasn’t been one newsworthy thing ever to occur on that show.

Scratch that, when the guy who got famous by doing things like this gets voted off a dance show, well that’s front page stuff.

And I suppose it was definitely reported on BBC when Sabrina, from my favorite band The Cheetah Girls, shocked the world by getting canned and THEN went out and started dating her dance partner.

And now that I think about it, there was also this little chestnut.  I like to listen for the initial laughs from the audience…

But yeah, this is what America has become.  Reality show dance-offs are now noted as "newsworthy" and 24-year old men live at home with their parents and occasionally ask their mom to give them money for gas.  Either learn to embrace it, or go live in the mountains somewhere without cable - of course if you did that, I’m sure you would soon be approached by a network lookin for another reality show on a hermit.

P.S. - this whole post was just an excuse for me to write my first blog and screw around with some of the link stuff.  Sorry for wasting your time.
