Save Ginny Weasley

OK, I heard about this group back at book 3, I think, and I didn't take it seriously then. But, my brother knew a good thing when he heard it.

Harry and the Potters are a brother duo of HP fans who "play songs about books." My then 11-year-old brother found some of the band's songs online in 2002 and became throughly obsessed. This year, he returned from the Harvard Square book release party with a new "Harry and the Potters" t-shirt, which hasn't left his body since Friday.

The band is from Boston and their MySpace page offers some clips of songs like "Save Ginny Weasley" and "The Human Hosepipe" on their "Pottercast." Their blog lists the locations of their summer tour performances, which have taken them across the country. They played back in Beantown for the July 20 book release (along with a band called Draco and The Malfoys) and my brother said it was, "AWESOME."

The rock-punkish songs are pretty funny. Favorite line: "Are you petrified, of being petrified?" They have 98,200 friends on MySpace and even took a trip to England to perform. What probably started out as a joke, has turned into a cult phenom among Potter fans.

They encourage all their fans to read, because reading is fun and named their second CD "Voldemort Can't Stop The Rock!" I also liked the PSA they recorded on their MySpace page telling fans not to spoil the book for others. Maybe coming to a library near you?
