Sing a song of politics

Filed under Uncategorized by jennifer o'callaghan at 11:47 am

Largeheartedboy today points out that Hillary Clinton needs a campaign song and is conducting an online poll to choose.

The official nominees are:

"Suddenly I See" by KT Tunstall
"I'm a Believer" by Smash Mouth
"Get Ready" by the Temptations
"Ready to Run" by the Dixie Chicks
"Rock Ths Country!" by Shania Twain
"Beautiful Day" by U2
"Right Here, Right Now" by Jesus Jones
"I'll Take You There: by the Staple Singers

You can listen to the songs and add your vote here.

I am sad to see "Beautiful Day" on the list. Yeah, it's a good song, but it popped up in John Kerry's campaign. Been there. Done that. Let's see some originality.

I'm eager to see what it turns out to be in the end. I like the sense of humor in using "I'm a Believer," though fellow 'Graph staffer Al McKeon wondered why The Monkees' version was overlooked. (I wonder if Hillary wants to be associated with Shrek somehow.) My favorite of the choices is probably KT Tunstall's "Suddenly I See."

Regardless of political affiliation, I think it's kind of a fun exercise to come up with possibilities for campaign songs.

It would be fun to see Hillary come out at events to Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots are Made for Walkin'" as a sassy wink at her male rivals (the original, not that awful Jessica Simpson take)

or, as Al suggested might turn things on end, the Mims hit "This is Why I'm Hot."

Or, of course, The Pretenders classic, "Brass in Pocket."

What song would you suggest for the former first lady? What about her rivals, Barack Obama, John Edwards, John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, John Cox, Ron Paul and the rest?
