“Solidarity only goes so far when you butcher ‘You Really Got Me’ “

How does Sanjaya persist, sending home more talented singers week after week, and is this the week the faux-hawk train finally leaves the "American Idol" station?

The question is the only thing that really seems to hold serious interest in this season's "Idol," which I've rightly heard dubbed "BlAh-merican Idol."

But leave it to our own science guru Dave Brooks to unearth this piece from Salon's How the World Works: It is not solidarity of the Indian people rallying behind the best-coiffed Idol hopeful.

Which leaves the hair.

In other news, Chris Sligh's behavior ("I just wanted to make the Top 10") post-elimination makes me sorry he was in my AI fantasy team.

Yeah, sure. You didn't want to win. Because who wants that kind of built-in fan-base and a guaranteed recording contract and free publicity?

Except for the crazy people who make the audition gag reel each season, who really gets into this contest without wanting to win?

It reminds me of the latest boot from "America's Next Top Model," who, when asked why she wanted to be "America's Next Top Model" answered, "Just 'cause."

Unlike Sligh, the full-figured Diana immediately recognized the error of her ways. But honestly, Chris, the rock-star "I don't care" attitude after elimination stinks of sour grapes.

If you haven't been watching ANTM, you can catch up via the snarky, fun recaps at Television Without Pity. Seriously. They don't miss a thing.

I'm with you on this one. A joke's a joke, but to see really talented contestants, like Sligh, have to watch the bye-bye video when you know Sanjaya is just taking up precious oxygen is galling. We know he's not going to win, but we also know he has at best - a novelty career in the future - picture William Hung with better teeth. But here's the thing. He doesn't even have the innocent charm that Hung had. Really he's just hair with a lousy voice attached. As for Sligh's good-bye, he could have been more gracious but looking at Hairboy in the rearview would make sour grapes look pretty tasty to me
