Snow business

Filed under Uncategorized by jennifer o'callaghan at 2:57 pm

Students at my alma mater, the College of Wooster, got themselves into a heap … er… snowbank of trouble.

Like a number of parts of the country, Ohio was hit this week with a blast of snow. Now, it's a long-standing tradition at Wooster that when snow hits the students try to fill the arch of the campus' main building, Kauke, with snow. If they succeed, rumor has it that classes will be canceled the next day.

I have many happy memories of bundling up to fill the arch. In my four years there, I don't recall once coming even close to success, but it was always a good time and a great bonding experience.

This year, things apparently went a bit awry.

I don't think the damage is permanent. I suspect that the next storm will bring another crowd of enthusiastic shovelers, but it got me thinking. What sort of snow-related traditions do you folks have out there? When Jack Frost starts nipping at your nose, do you hunker down and wait out the cold or do you get out and get crazy with snowball fights or ice sculptures or things that go freeze in the night?

I wanna know.
