For anyone who hasn't already heard, the Suncoast in the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua is "closing down." So if you're looking for some deals on movies and movie merchandise, that's the place to go this week.

From what I understand (this isn't based on systematic investigative reporting - just based on what I've heard from other shop owners), Suncoast was bought by another company and said company didn't realize that it would then need to renew its lease, so now the store has no place to go. Suncoast will be back under a different name in about a year or so, and in the meantime, they're selling off all their inventory.

At this point, all DVDs are ten percent off, which is a little underwhelming when you're looking at a $30 new release, but quite nice on a $7.99 used DVD. T-shirts, posters, and other assorted merchandise are 75% off, but very picked over at this point. All the manga is gone - I don't know if it was the first thing that went, if they packed it up to keep, or sold it to a bookstore, but it was nowhere in sight when I was there on Sunday.

If you have one of those Backstage Pass keytags, you get an extra ten percent off your total purchase. Pretty sweet.

My family stocked up on Saturday. Well, mostly my mom. I didn't know Shirley Temple had made that many movies. My little sister's latest fixation is Lizzie McGuire, so they bought lots of Hilary Duff as well.

Not that I can point fingers in my little glass house here. After combing through the anime section for almost an hour, I picked up the Cromartie High School box set, the Fumoffu box set, the first two DVDs of Get Backers (used), and Angela's Input/Output CD. This should keep me occupied for the better part of a week.

I was surprised to see so many stores and kiosks going out of business at the same time. Eddie Bauer's gone. Eddie Bauer. In New Hampshire. Who would've thought? What's next, L.L.Bean?
