Santa snacks

While staying with my sis over the long Turkey Day weekend, we popped in a DVD of Saturday Night Live holiday skits I purchased around this time last year. At the start of the infamous "Delicious Dish: Shweddy Balls" segment, fake NPR hosts Molly Shannon and Ana Gasteyer talked about what they planned to leave the fat man in the red suit on Christmas Eve. Ana Gasteyer’s character said she planned to leave water and rice because she suspected Santa might share her stomach trouble from all the rich holiday foods.
It got me thinking. For years, my sisters and I left cookies out with the obligatory glass o’ milk. Gradually, we started to add carrots and water for the reindeer, cheese for Santa Mouse, milk for Santa Cat and dog biscuits for Santa Dog. (Santa apparently came to our house with a menagerie that would have made Noah’s head spin.) When my parents heard that my very best friend in the whole wide world, Diana, left wine and cheese for Santa, we added that to the buffet, designating the milk and cookies for whatever helper elves might accompany him on his journey.
So I am curious, O Pop Diners. For those of you who celebrate Christmas and leave nibblings for jolly Ol’ Saint Nick, what do you leave on Christmas Eve??
