If RPGers formed a band, hyperactive boy band plushies, and an unusual girl

Teresa’s finding wackiness on YouTube again. Must be Friday.
Here’s an unusual little video from My Barbarian called Unicorns L.A. I’ve never played Dungeons & Dragons or Magic: The Gathering, but I can say with near certainty that Jazzercise is not one of the standard powers your character can obtain, nor do changelings wear purple Spandex leggings and rainbow leg warmers.
I’m not epileptic, but I almost had a seizure three minutes into the video. Wow. Talk about insane cut rates.
Their enthusiasm is laudable, but it’s hard to say how seriously they take themselves. This video is either totally awesome or, um, a little bit sad. Someone actually had to sit down and block the choreography for this and time the popping-out-from-behind-trees sequence. Whatever their true intentions may be, watch, enjoy, and keep an eye out for the amazing (okay, corny is probably a better word) changeling escape boogie.
Oh no, look out for the bird! It’s so lifelike, it might kill you! Or at the very least, you might get too overzealous and poke yourself in the eye with its beak. Great fun.
We also have a music video from now-defunct Korean boy band, H.O.T. It stands for High-Five of Teenagers, but it’s such a convenient acronym for the fans and, of course, for their marketing team.
The video is a little blurry, but your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. Those overalls are indeed made of fake fur. Another convenience for the fans, who had probably always wondered what their favorite singers would look like as stuffed animals. And big furry mittens, so the band could successfully market their own line of pot holders to reach that difficult demographic: their fans’ parents.
If the translation I found for this song is accurate, it’s totally out of keeping with the video. It’s basically about not liking your girlfriend anymore and deciding to break up with her, then deciding to change yourself and stay with her because you’re both under the same sky.
What? If I ever wrote a song dealing with that kind of subject matter, I would not call it Candy and the video would not feature boys in fuzzy overalls trying to win the affections of the girl who works at the candy booth at the amusement park. It’s a tremendously fun video, though, so I can forgive the director and the songwriter.
And last, but never the least, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper. Greatest pop hook *ever*, plus it sets the perfect tone for the weekend.
Most of us don’t party nearly as much as Cyndi and her friends do, but this song works just as well as a driving-to-the-video-store-and-the-grocery-store anthem as it does a yay-I’m-going-to-a-party song.
My favorite part is the bit with all the bubbles and, of course, the bedroom dance party at the end. And the clothes - if I could trade wardrobes with anyone for a day, it would be Cyndi Lauper.
Happy Friday, one and all! Hope these videos put y’all in the mood for a fun and relaxing weekend. :)
