John Cusack for president?

Posted by jennifer o'callaghan

I can’t think of a better man for the job than Lloyd Dobler. Can you?

But if you need more reasons, check this out.
For a campaign slogan, I would suggest, "Get caught in the Dobler effect."
Whaddaya think?

Sad songs they say so much

Posted by jennifer o'callaghan

Erasing Clouds is working on a project in which 100 musicians will answer the same 10 questions. The first 10 are already online.
Check it out here.
My favorite query is the last one, what’s the saddest song you’ve ever heard? If I were a musician (and anyone who’s ever heard me sing in the [...]

The science of Superman!

Posted by david brooks

At the risk of adding to the reputation of scientists as killjoys, those of you curious about how ridiculous or realistic Superman’s powers are might want to check out Science of Superman.
It ponders this interesting question: Superman’s powers came about because Krypton had higher gravity than Earth, so how big was Krypton to create [...]

Will you still call me Superman?

Posted by jennifer o'callaghan

It’s a bird, it’s a plane …
It’s 40 things you don’t know about Superman.

Like, he used to look way more like Dr. Evil.
Throw me a frickin’ bone, Lex Luthor.

Dunk like a pro

Science is always one step ahead of us, bringing us inventions to make our lives just a little bit better, like this cookie-dunking machine.

Opposites in cinema

Even I don’t quite know what to say about Connie Chung’s very campy, very odd rendition of "Thanks for the Memories."
I can’t make fun of her singing. Lordy, I know no one would hire me for my ability to carry a tune.
Check it out. [...]

Weird Al gets Blunt

Posted by jennifer o'callaghan

Is anyone else sick to death of James Blunt’s "You’re Beautiful"?
It has seriously reached "Macarena" proportions in annoying me.

Thank goodness for Weird Al Yankovic. He’s created one of his infamous parodies of the song, "You’re Pitiful," which you can download free here.
You can thank me later.

Back to the Futurama!

Posted by jennifer o'callaghan

Dreams can come true! I mourned the day Matt Groening’s Futurama, which chronicled the adventures of a hapless pizza boy who stumbled into a cryogenic chamber and awoke hundreds of years into the future, halted production.
But sometimes the planets align and magic happens.
Gizmodo reports that Comedy Central will air 13 new episodes.
Ladies and gentlemen, [...]

Water, water, everywhere

Posted by jennifer o'callaghan

Yesterday at The ‘Graph, we had an awesome employee barbecue, wherein the departments all mingled, ate hamburgers and hot dogs and engaged in a bit o’ tomfoolery in the parking lot.
Well, some of us engaged in tomfoolery. Someone set out water pistols, the old-fashioned plastic kind sorta like these:

I can’t resist a water fight, so [...]
