Happy Birthday, FOIA (w/video cartoon)
Filed under Uncategorized by nick pappas at 9:30 pm
In recognition of the birthday of the federal Freedom of Information Act, which turned 40 years old on July 4, OpenTheGovernment.org has published a 34-page report examining some of the plans put forward by federal agencies in response to calls by the White House for the improved disclosure of information.
While I hate to give the ending away, it’s not particularly encouraging.
Still, while you are at the site, you might want to check out the clever cartoon, "Are We Safer in the Dark," an animated look at government secrecy.
The cartoon is particularly timely, given the ongoing debate over the release of information by The New York Times and other newspapers about the White House’s secret anti-terrorism program that monitors international bank transactions.
