How We Broke The Julia Earl Story II
Filed under General by nick pappas at 9:26 pm
One of our long-standing policies here at The Telegraph is that we will publish a clarification or correction to a story whenever we feel it is necessary — whether a reader brings something to our attention or not.
That’s what we’re planning to do in Friday’s edition since severalof our editors felt some readers may have been confused by whocontributed what to our coverage of Nashua Superintendent of SchoolsJulia Earl’s trip to Tulsa, Okla.
The main story on Page 1 waswritten by education reporter Michael Brindley, who was reporting fromhere, and freelance reporter Jenny Redden, who was reporting from Tulsa.
Reddentaped and provided a full transcript of Earl’s press conference, whichbecame the basis for much of the story. We also published excerpts ofthat transcript in the print edition and made the full transcriptavailable on our Web site, www.nashuatelegraph.com.
Whilewe considered sending Mike to Tulsa, we ultimately opted for thisapproach, which included the hiring of a freelance photographer toprovide us with the photographs that appeared on Page 1.
Anearlier version contained the clarifying information at the bottom ofthe story, but it was inadvertently omitted when we went to press.
I hope this answers any nagging questions you might have had, even if they didn’t prompt calls to the newsroom.
