Sunshine Week. Click for more information...

On Friday, The Telegraph published a story headlined "Study: Government flaunts information law requirements / Think tank says about 75 percent of agencies breaking federal rules."

Here's how the story by Robert Tanner of The Associated Press opened:

Federal agencies have dragged their feet on implementing a 10-year-old law that requires them to use the Internet to make government documents easily available, a study says.

The result is the public is blocked from easier access to information, the report says, and the cost of answering information requests is driven up.

Here is a link to the full story.

This was the 10th story -- including a column by the editor (Sunday) and an editorial (Monday) -- The Telegraph published this week in conjunction with Sunshine Week, a national initiative to bring attention to the importance of open government.

Poll: Americans believe federal government is ‘sneaky’

By THOMAS HARGROVE, Scripps Howard News Service

WASHINGTON – Americans increasingly suspect the federal government has become cloaked in secrecy, a concern they don’t have with their local and state governments.

People also overwhelmingly believe that their federal leaders have become sneaky, listening to telephone conversations or opening private mail without getting court permission, according to a survey of 1,008 adults commissioned by the American Society of Newspaper Editors.
