Wanted: Reader Advisory Network MembersNick | 26 January, 2007 22:43 | (434)
How would you like an opportunity to be interviewed for a news story on a topic close to your heart? Or participate in a national survey examining credibility in the media? Or perhaps even join us for an editorial board interview with the person who might just turn out to be next president of the United States? Then our Reader Advisory Network might be right for you. Four years ago, The Telegraph began assembling its first Reader Advisory Network, a group of readers who volunteered to share their e-mail addresses with us in return for an opportunity to have a voice in our news coverage. At its peak, the e-mail network consisted of between 250 and 300 people, a large number of whom were regular contributors whenever we put out a call for assistance. Among the opportunities:
Today, as we approach what is certain to be a newsworthy year - town elections in March; Nashua elections for mayor, board of aldermen and board of education in November, and a presidential primary in January, if not sooner - we thought it would be a good time to recruit a "new" Reader Advisory Network. Now, if you are one of our original Reader Advisory Network members, you can relax. We're not kicking you out. We just ask that you and anyone else who would like to participate in the 2007 group to complete the registration form at http://ran.nashuatelegraph.com. Barring any technical difficulties, it should be up and running today. Once there, you will note we've added some additional fields of information since the last time we did this in 2003. In addition to the more traditional contact information, we're asking this time for your age, party affiliation, three top political issues and personal interests. The point isn't to be nosy. Rather, it will give us an opportunity to e-mail subgroups from the network - people under 25, Republicans or Democrats only, members who listed health care as an important issue - if we are pursuing stories particular to those interests. As we did the first time around, we promise not to sell the database to any outside entity and use it only for the intended purposes stated here. Participants also retain the option to drop out for whatever reason at any time. One final thought: While membership is open to anyone - that is to say, we don't have any intention of disqualifying anyone - the Reader Advisory Network is intended for ordinary citizens with an interest in public policy issues. It wouldn't be as valuable to us, or to you for that matter, if it were dominated by government officials or prominent political partisans. So please take a few minutes today to consider our invitation to join The Telegraph's Reader Advisory Network. It should be a good experience for both of us.
Gerald Prunier is always the lawyer in these cases. He knows his business and the City employees who face him are at a disadvantage. Posted by: Carl Weber | February 01, 2007, 19:25Add commentsearcharchives
