Scarier than a mob of young ghosts or goblins heading toward our door and yet more tempting than a bag full of Butterfingers are the ads for Halloween candy sales that are in some of the Sunday fliers this week. It’s too early, please.

While we don’t need to eat candy, and certainly not that much candy, we do need to buy fruits, veggies, dairy, pasta and meats. This week, Market Basket has something for everyone, and many of the sale prices are to drive for.

From today-Thursday (Sept. 11-17), area Stop & Shops have Friendly’s ice cream in 48-ounce containers for $1.99 (limit 3) and Maine grown bunched broccoli or broccoli crowns for 88 cents a pound.

Besides the faraway holiday candy, from Sunday-Saturday (Sept. 13-19), CVS has Reach toothbrush 2-packs and Reach dental floss (30 yards) for $1.99 (limit 3) after $2 back in Extra Bucks, Colgate Total Advanced toothpaste in 4-ounce tube for 99 cents (limit 1) after $2 back in Extra Bucks, Purex Ultra Concentrate liquid laundry detergent for $2.49 (limit 5) after $1 back in Extra Bucks, and Aussie 33-8-ounce, Pantene 25.4-ounce and Herbal Essences or Head & Shoulders 23.7-ounce containers for shampoo for $3.99 (limit 3) after $2 back in Extra Bucks.

From Sunday-Saturday (Sept. 13-19), Walgreens has store brand 24-count ibuprofen for $1, store brand Gold Seal single letter vitamins (including D and C) in 60- to 100-count bottles for $2.50 and store brand ammonia in 64-ounce bottle and fabric softener dryer sheets (80 count) in a buy 1, get 1 free special.
