A quick glance and, presto!, we see savings

A quick glance through the new supermarket and drugstore fliers tells us that there are some bargains to be had this week.

From Sunday-Saturday (Aug. 16-22), Market Basket has boneless, skinless chicken breast for $1.99 a pound, bananas for 39 cents a pound, romaine lettuce for 69 cents each, Chef Boyardee canned pasta 80 cents each, Folgers ground coffee in 27.8- to 33.9-ounce containers for $5.99, broccoli crowns for 89 cents a pound, Dannon yogurt 6-ounce containers for 40 cents, Maruchan ramen noodles 12-packs for $2 and Scotties facial tissues 250-count boxes for $1.29.

From today-Thursday (Aug. 14-20), Shaw’s has Hood ice cream or yogurt in 48- to 56-ounce containers for $1.99 (limit 4) and frozen swordfish or tuna steaks for $6.99 a pound (and there’s an added savings if you use Printacoupon at Shaws.com).

From Sunday-Saturday (Aug. 16-22), Hannaford has Dannon yogurt 6-ounce containers for 40 cents and live lobsters for $4.99 a pound.

From today-Thursday (Aug. 14-20), Stop & Shop has Dannon yogurt 6-ounce containers for 40 cents, its peaches or nectarines for 99 cents a pound and value packs (3 pounds or more) of 80% lean ground beef for $1.99 a pound.

From Sunday-Tuesday (Aug. 16-18), CVS has four 12-packs of Pepsi products for $8 after $4 back in Extra Bucks, a set of Philips earhook headphones free after $6.99 in Extra Bucks as well as a number of free after Extra Bucks products including 150 sheets of filler paper, Paper Mate Write Bros. 10-packs of pens and mini-composition books/80 sheets. For the rest of the sales week (through Aug. 22), there are Pantene, Herbal Essences and Head & Shoulders shampoo and conditioner in 23.7- to 25.8-ounce containers for $3.99 after $2 back in Extra Bucks.

From Sunday-Saturday (Aug. 16-22), Walgreens has Skippy peanut butter in 16.3-ounce containers or Welch’s grape jelly in 32-ounce jar for $1.99 (limit 2), Hormel Spam or corned beef or Celebrity ham in 12-ounce tins for $1.99 (limit 2), and Palmolive dish liquid in 10-ounce container for 99 cents (limit 3) with flier coupon.

Always try to use manufacturers coupons to save even more.
