We’ve got more of those back-to-school specials at the drugstores next week, and some steep discounts on a few items at the supermarkets. But where are the many good prices on the fruits and veggies? Maybe we should start making shot-in-the-dark trips to local farmers markets.
From today-Thursday (July 24-30), Stop & Shop/Milford has northwest cherries for $1.49 a pound, 3 pounds or greater packages of 80% lean ground beef for $1.99 a pound and Turkey Hill ice cream in 48-ounce containers (25% smaller than half-gallons) for $1.99 (limit 4).
From today-Thursday (July 24-30), Shaw’s/Milford and Shaw’s/Merrimack have boneless breast of chicken in 3-pound or larger packages for $1.89 a pound, California red seedless grapes are 88 cents a pound and Florida’s Natural orange or grapefruit juices are $1.99 (limit 2), and you can print out extra Florida’s Natural manufacturer’s coupons with Printacoupon at shaws.com.
From Sunday-Saturday (July 26-Aug. 1), Market Basket has schrod haddock fillets for $3.99 a pound, store brand English muffins 6-packs for 50 cents, store brand deli rare roast beef or Virginia or honey ham for $3.99 a pound, Mama Rosie’s mini-cheese ravioli in 24-ounce packages for $2, Columbo yogurt in 32-ounce containers for $1.69 and bunches of celery for 99 cents.
From Sunday-Saturday (July 26-Aug. 1), Hannaford/Bedford has boneless, skinless breast chicken breast for $1.79 a pound, and Hannaford/Nashua, Hudson and Londonderry has it for $1.89 a pound. But the latter markets have store brand yogurt in 6- to 8-ounce containers for 35 cents, red vine cluster tomatoes for 99 cents a pound and Land O Lakes yellow or white American cheese for $3.59 a pound. Also, Hannaford markets are running special 3-day sales today through Sunday (July 24-26), including Kraft American singles in 12-ounce packages for $1.50 (limit 4), Edy’s 6- to 12-count fruit bars for $1.99 (limit 4) and Sara Lee oven-roasted turkey breast for $4.99 a pound.
From Sunday-Saturday (July 26-Aug. 1), CVS has some deals for the candy lovers, including $5 in Extra Bucks back if you spend $15 on two dozen brands. Plus, there are some free-after-Extra Bucks specials on erasers tips, Pilot EasyTouch pens in 2-packs and Swingline Tot staplers. There’s also a three-day (Sunday-Tuesday) deal on Colgate Total toothpaste in 4-ounce tubes for 88 cents after $2 back in Extra Bucks.
From Sunday-Saturday (July 26-Aug. 1), Walgreens has Cascade dishwasher powdered detergent in 60-ounce box for $3.99, Ajax cleanser in 14-ounce containers for three/$1 with flier coupon, Jif peanut butter in 18-ounce jars is $2 and Geisha 5-ounce chunk light tuna in water is 59 cents (limit 3) with flier coupon.
