Getting a jump on the week’s bargains

To help area shoppers get an idea where the best deals are, I’ve peeked at next week’s store fliers to see. The answer is . . . at the Stop & Shop supermarket in Milford.
Starting July 3, the supermarket there will have sirloin steak tips for $3.99 a pound, 12 ears of sweet corn for $1.99 (limit two dozen), five Coke product 12-packs for $11 (must buy five), Breyers ice cream in half-gallons, er, 48-ounce containers for $1.99 (limit three), 5-ounce cans of Bumble Bee solid white tuna for 79 cents (limit six), various size packages of Klondike bars or Popsicle ice pops for $1.99 and all Budweiser varieties of cans in 30-packs are $15.99. Plus, check your flier for the strip of four $1 doubler coupons, which allow you to use four $1 manufacturers coupons and get $2 off each item if you spend $15.
Market Basket supermarkets also have some good deals starting July 5. Wild salmon fillets are $4.99 a pound, store brand deli roast beef is $3.99 a pound and gallons of 1% or skim milk are $1.99. Select boxes of Kellogg’s cereals, including Raisin Bran and Frosted Flake, are $1.99 after an instant in-store coupon. Dannon yogurt in 6-packs are $2, 1-pound packages of Kraft American cheese are $2.50, 14.75-ounce cans of Bumble Bee pink salmon are $1.99 and Spam luncheon meat are $2. Three-pound bags of Empire apples are $1.99, and 12-packs of Heineken beer in cans or bottles are $9.99.
Starting July 3, and running through July 5, Shaw’s supermarkets will have its fresh 80% lean ground beef for $1.59 a pound, southern-style spare ribs are 99 cents a pound and 30-packs of cans of Budweiser, Miller and Coors varieties are $15.99. Plus, at the Milford Shaw’s, you can get Florida’s Natural half-gallons of orange or grapefruit juice for $1.99, and green peppers, yellow onions or white mushrooms in fixed amounts are 88 cents a pound. (At the Nashua Shaw’s, you’ll pay $2.47 for the juice and 99 cents a pound for the veggies.)
Starting July 5, Hannaford has chicken drumsticks or thighs in 4- to 5-pound packages for 79 cents a pound.
Area drug stores have some deals, too. Starting July 5, Walgreens has Jif peanut butter in 18-ounce jars for $2 (limit two). You’ll get $1 back in Register Rewards on a box or container of Tide or Gain, and Cascade dish detergent in the 60-ounce box or gel container is on sale for $3.99.
Starting July 5, and through July 6, CVS has its transparent tape, 10-packs of No. 2 pencils or a pencil sharpener free after either $1.49 or 99 cents back in Extra Bucks. Cascade dish detergent in the 75-ounce box or gel container is on sale for $4.49. Head & Shoulders, Gillette or Pantene shampoos in various sizes are $2.99 after $2 back in Extra Bucks. And Dawn dish liquid in 10.3-ounce bottles are two for $1 after $1 back in Extra Bucks.
Always try to use manufacturers coupons to save even more.
