Life story worth telling that’s not surreal

Filed under Savvy Shopper by sherman smith at 12:57 am

There’s good news this week for the workaholics who always seem to complain they have no life. A couple of supermarkets have Life cereal on sale and there are other good bargains to be had, too.

Fliers from both Shaw’s and Hannaford advertise good prices on 14- to 16-ounce boxes of Life. Shaw’s is selling boxes for $1.49, while Hannaford has the boxes priced at $2. Shaw’s is also running specials on Swift Premium pork chops in any size packages, along with online coupons. But at $1.29 a pound, you’ll save 20 cents a pound by shopping at the Milford and Merrimack markets.

Hannaford also has all varieties of 6-ounce Dannon yogurts at 40 cents a container.

Stop & Shop has some good prices on 80 percent lean ground beef ($1.79 a pound), large brown eggs (99 cents a dozen, Wish-Bone dressings in 8-ounce bottles ($1) and Arm & Hammer 2X Liquid Laundry Detergent in the 50-ounce bottle ($1.99; limit four). Spend more than $15 and you can use the four $1 doubler coupons that come with The Telegraph flier to save an extra $4.

Market Basket has some good deals, too. Broccoli crowns are 99 cents a pound. A gallon of Wesson vegetable or canola oil is $5.99. Live, hard shell lobsters are still $4.99 a pound this week. Friehofer’s Country Breads are $1.50 for 24-ounce loaves. Store brand frozen Pop Sticks are $2 for the 42-ounce package. Nectarines or peaches in value packs are 99 cents a pound. Romaine, red or green leaf lettuce heads are 79 cents. Celery bunches are 99 cents. Plus, the supermarket chain is pushing a number of its store-brand health and beauty products, including liquid soap refills in 40-ounce bottles for $1.50, 160-count boxes of facial tissues for 67 cents and jumbo supreme diapers in 22- to 44-count packages for $5.99.

Not much to draw me to the drugstore chains this week, but Walgreens has 5-pound bags of Domino sugar on sale with a flier coupon for $2.29 (limit two) and buying three bottles of Tresemme hair care products, including 25- to 32-ounce shampoo or conditioner, will earn you a $5 Register Reward and reduce the price effectively to three bottles for $7. Also a quart of store-brand honey is $3.99 (limit two) and containers of baking soda (16 ounces) or Morton salt (26 ounces) are two for $1 with a flier coupon (limit four).

Always look to use manufacturer’s coupons to save even more.
