Look for the coupons but save with lower prices

There are special coupons in a couple of supermarket fliers that promise savings this week, but the big deal may be the lower prices listed in the Market Basket flier.

Market Basket is selling 80 percent lean ground beef at $1.79 a pound in any size package and boneless and skinless chicken breast at $1.89 a pound and Dunkin’ Donuts coffee in 12-ounce packages are $4.99. Store brand rare roast beef is $3.99 a pound, 22-ounce loaves of Country Kitchen Giant white bread are $2, 10-packs of Ivory bath soap are $2.99, store brand 2-pound packages of sweet peas, cut corn, mixed vegetables or cut broccoli are $1.67 and Kraft barbecue sauce is 99 cents for 18-ounce bottles. Also, heads of Romaine lettuce are 79 cents, broccoli crowns are 99 cents a pound and McIntosh or Empire apples are $1.99 for 3-pound bags.

Stop & Shop has four $1 doubler coupons in its flier, which will boost the savings on four items to $2 each if you spend $15. You could also save on Dannon yogurt, which is advertised at 40 cents for 6-ounce cups, or varieties of Kellogg’s, Post or Quaker cereals at $1.88 a box, Knorr Pasta or Rice Sides for $1, or Chef Boyardee canned pasta at $1 each. Also, sweet red peppers are 99 cents a pound.

Shaw’s has a new look in its flier, including special prices “Locked In” until Sept. 19. There are also Super Coupons on nine items in the flier, and a savings of $5 (on your next purchase) if you spend $20 or more on select Procter & Gamble products, including Pampers, Charmin, Cascade, Crest and Iams.

Hannaford is offering its boneless strip steak or live lobsters from 1 to 1.25 pounds for $5.49 – while supplies last. Also its store brand roast beef is $3.99 a pound and chicken leg quarters are 49 cents a pound.

CVS and Walgreens also are offering some good deals.

CVS has select Kellogg’s cereals at three for $5 after $5 back in ExtraBucks. Zantrex-3 Insta-shot two-packs are free after $4.99 in ExtraBucks. There’s a coupon for double the ExtraBucks on every two prescriptions purchased through June 15. Finally, there are a number of buy one, get one free offers on CVS products, including its ibuprofen, antibiotic ointment and pregnancy tests.

Walgreens is selling 12-packs of Sunkist, A&W, Canada Dry, Dr Pepper and 7 up at three for $6 after $5 back in RegisterRewards. Right Guard 2- to 4-ounce antiperspirants are 99 cents after $2 in RegisterRewards. The drugstore chain also has some buy one, get one free offers on its first aid products, including bandages and antibiotic creams or ointments. Reach Advanced toothbrushes in three-packs are $3. And packages of select Energizer batteries, including four-packs of rechargables or two AA rechargable batteries plus a value charger, for $7.99.

Always look to use manufacturer’s coupons to save even more.
