Warm days, hot deals on chicken, ground beef

A couple of freakishly warm, summerlike days in late April, and supermarket specials on ground beef, boneless chicken breast and beer seem timely. Got room in a freezer? Stock up and live off the grill through Labor Day.
Hannaford has 3- to 5-pound packages of 75 percent lean ground beef for $1.29 a pound. Southern style pork ribs are 99 cents a pound, and Hormel cooked ham is $1.99 a pound. Three-pound bags of three varieties of apples are $1.99, green cabbage is 39 cents a pound and asparagus is $1.99 a pound. Ace of Diamonds solid white tuna four-packs are $3.75.
Stop & Shop has boneless chicken breast in 3-pound or bigger packages for $1.79 a pound. Red seedless grapes are 99 cents a pound. You’ll also save $4 off four boxes of various sizes of General Mills cereals.
Prices at various Shaw’s in Greater Nashua are varying again, with deals a bit better at supermarkets in Merrimack and Milford. Ground beef, 80 percent lean, is $2.39 there versus $2.49 at Nashua, Derry and Londonderry markets. Also, boneless center cut pork chops, for which an additional coupon is available at Shaws.com, are $1.89 or $1.99 a pound. Shaw’s butter is also priced at $1.89 or $1.99 a pound. And various sizes of Brawny or Quilted Northern Ultra paper products are $5.49 or $5.99, depending where you shop. Dole bananas are a deal at all Shaw’s at 39 cents a pound.
Lastly, Market Basket has two types of salmon fillets for $5.99 a pound and haddock fillets for $4.99 a pound. Center cut bonesless pork chops are $1.99 a pound. Broccoli crowns are $1.29 a pound. Dos Equis 12-packs are $9.99 (as May 5 gets closer), and Corona 12-packs are $10.99 (the same as what Stop & Shop is charging). Old El Paso 12-packs of taco shells and 12-ounce cans of refried beans are $1, and 16-ounce jars of mild and medium salsa are $1.50.
There are some deals, too, at the drugstore chains. At CVS, you’ll get $6 in ExtraBucks back when you buy a Gillette Fusion razor and Fusion 4- or 8-count of cartridges. There’s $4 back for those who buy a Schick Intuition razor, and buying two Mennen deodorants will produce $3 in ExtraBucks. Also, you’ll get $5 in ExtraBucks for spending $15 on various Nivea products.
At Walgreens, 18-ounce jars of Jif peanut butter are $2 (limit four) with the flier coupon. Five-pound bags of Domino sugar are $2.49 (limit three) with a flier coupon. Nivea body wash is free after $4.99 in RegisterRewards, and Bayer Quick Release Crystals in four-packs are free after $2.49 in RegisterRewards. Dove or Degree deodorants are $1.99 (limit three) with the flier coupon.
