Where Shaw’s shoppers shop can mean savings

Filed under Savvy Shopper by sherman smith at 11:37 pm

Merrimack residents may get hit extra hard at the toll booth, but if they shop at Shaw’s in town or in Milford, they’ll pay less for a couple of featured items than shoppers will at most other Greater Nashua Shaw’s.

In the chain’s zoned fliers distributed by The Telegraph, Tropicana half-gallons or 59-ounce containers are priced at $2.50 in the Merrimack or Milford markets while Shaw’s shoppers in Nashua, Londonderry, Derry and other places around the state would have to pay $2.99. Shaw’s family pack of chicken, with 3 pounds or more of various pieces, is 89 cents a pound in Merrimack or Milford while it costs 99 cents a pound elsewhere.

Meanwhile, at Hannaford, homestyle roasting chickens are 69 cents a pound.

There are good deals at Market Basket and Stop & Shop, too, this week.

Market Basket has Jennie-O frozen basted turkey breast (7-9 pounds) at 99 cents a pound. Rare roast beef is $3.99 a pound at the delis, and 93% extra lean ground beef is $2.69 a pound. Fresh spinach is 99 cents for a 10-ounce bag. Hood cottage cheese in 1-pound containers is $1.67. Pepito fajitas tortillas in the 8-ounce, 8-pack are 67 cents. Dinty Moore beef stew in 24-ounce cans is $1.69. Empire apples in the 5-pound value pack are $2.99.

At Stop & Shop in Milford, frozen turkey breast (5-7 pounds) is 99 cents a pound, Edy ice cream in 48- to 56-ounce containers is $1.99 (limit three) and fresh boneless Atlantic salmon fillets are $4.99. The market is also advertising that shoppers who buy six gallons of varieties of milk will get the seventh free. (By the way, most weeks that we’ve checked prices at the Hudson Stop & Shop we find they mirror those in Milford, but we can’t say for certain because we didn’t get our Hudson flier this week.)

At CVS drugstores, 4.2-ounce tubes of Crest Pro-Health toothpaste are free after ExtraBucks, while all Tresemme items priced $3.49-$7.99 are $3.33 each (limit six).

Walgreens has its brand of double-zip sandwich and storage bags, regularly $1.99, on sale for 99 cents with flier coupon (limit four). Stride 14-packs of gum are 79 cents with the flier coupon (limit six). Schick Quattro razors for women are $4.99 after coupon, and Gillette Fusion razors for men are $4.99 after $4 in Register Rewards. Playtex tampons has a $2 off coupon from the EasySaver catalog. A half-ounce tube of Walgreens triple antibiotic is $1.50.

Always look to use manufacturer’s coupons to save even more.
