Great grains! Good deals on cereal, bread, pasta

It’s a great week at area markets and stores for deals on grain-based products: Cereals, breads and pasta.

Shaw’s will instantly discount your order by $10 when you buy 10 boxes of Cheerios, Chex and other General Mills products for $25; use manufacturer’s coupons to save more. Stop & Shop is knocking $4 off four boxes of Kellogg’s cereals, and again you can use manufacturer’s coupons to save more. CVS is offering buy one, get one free on varieties of Post cereals (limit four items). Finally, Walgreens is offering a mix and match on selected varieties of Quaker, Nature’s Path and Kellogg’s cereal as well as Maxwell House coffee at two for $5.

Market Basket is selling 1-pound loaves of Country Kitchen oatmeal bread for 99 cents and 24-ounce packages of Freihofer’s Country and Family breads for $2. The supermarket chain is also selling five types of its brand of pasta in 1-pound packages for 69 cents and 12-packs of Maruchan chicken Ramen noodles for $2. Other bargains at the chain include 5-pound bags of Russet potatoes for $1.99, half-gallons of Tropicana orange juice for $2.50, fresh salmon fillets for $4.99, boneless center cut pork chops for $2.29 a pound, 26-ounce jars of Ragu pasta sauce for $2, 3-pound bags of Empire or McIntosh apples for $2, value packs of sweet red peppers for $1.29 a pound and broccoli crowns for $1.29 a pound.

Other bargains at Stop & Shop include whole boneless pork loin (6-9 pound average) for $1.77 a pound and Edy’s ice cream 48- to 56-ounce containers for $1.99 (limit three).

Shaw’s also has Hood ice cream in 48- to 56-ounce containers or Lactaid ice cream in 32-ounce containers for $1.99 (limit two), and bunches of celery and 10-ounce bags of spinach for $1.

There are other bargains at drug store chains. CVS is offering $4 back in ExtraBucks on Gillette Fusion razors (limit one), $10 back in ExtraBucks on Accu-Chek Compact Plus diabetes monitoring kit, reducing the cost to $9.99 (limit one), Extreme Energy 6-hour shot two-pack is free after $4.99 in ExtraBucks.

Rite Aid is offering Garnier Fructis hair products free after $2.99 rebate, 78-ounce Xtra laudry detergent and Nice’n Fluffy fabric softener in 80-ounce liquid or 100-count dryer sheets for $1.88 after $1 rebate, Kotex pads or Lightdays pantiliners two for $4 after $2 rebate on two, and 10 Soyjoy bars free after $5 rebate. (By the way, Rite Aid’s Single Check Rebate program is a snap if you file online using your receipt.)

Walgreens has a flier coupon on 5-ounce cans of Bumble Bee chunk light tuna in water or 3.75-ounce cans of Bumble Bee sardines in oil three for $2 (limit three), and is also offering a Gillette Fusion Gamer, Venus Spa Breeze razor or Embrace Razor for $2.99 after $6 in Register Rewards. Finally, spending $30 on select Tums, Ex-lax, Maalox, Prilosec or Zantac products will get you $10 in Register Rewards (or spending $20 will get you $5).

Always look to use manufacturer’s coupons to save even more.
