Based on the supermarket ads this week, it looks as if many shoppers will be buying and eating ham for Christmas dinner.
Shaw’s was advertising Cook’s spiral half ham for $1.39 a pound, after an additional $25 purchase for each ham, limit one. Market Basket’s two-week ad promoted Morrell smoked ham butt portion at $1.19 a pound. And Hannaford was offering Cook’s spiral honey ham for $1.59 a pound.
Now Stop & Shop has bought an ad in the Sunday Telegraph to push a $1.29-a-pound price for Cook’s spiral half hams, limit two. Stop & Shop’s regular flier advertised Carando spiral sliced ham at $1.99 a pound.
Other good specials at area markets include: at Stop & Shop, Pepsi 12-packs at four for $10 (plus 50 bonus points for those with the loyalty card); Stop & Shop butter in 1-pound packages for $1.50, limit four, and Edy’s ice cream in 48- to 56-ounce containers for $1.99, limit three.
At Shaw’s, we see fresh green beans, broccoli crowns and red seedless grapes for 99 cents a pound, Nestle chocolate baking morsels in 10- to 12- ounce bags for $1.88, Hood ice cream in 48- to 56-ounce containers for $1.99; and Kraft Philadelphia cream cheese in 8-ounce packages, buy one, get one.
Market Basket has prime young turkeys at 59 cents a pound, Florida’s Natural orange juice half-gallons at $2.50, California celery at $1.29 a bunch and 24-ounce loaves of Friehofer’s Country Breads at $1.50.
Hannaford also has top round roast beef for $1.97 a pound and its homestyle roasting chicken at 88 cents a pound.
Walgreen’s four-day circular through Christmas Eve has a giveaway price on a 1,875-watt Conair Gel Grips ionic style hair dryer, free after $10 in Register Rewards. The drug store chain also has 8-ounce jars of Maxwell House instant coffee on sale at $3.99 with flier coupon.
Last but not least are the offerings in CVS’ weeklong flier, including a number of free after ExtraBucks items Sunday and Monday on pages 3 and 17. Best among the freebie deals are ThermaCare neck to arm heatwraps; Zipfizz energy mix, three count, and Zantac 150 eight count. Other deals all week are Coke 12-packs three for $11, but with $5 in ExtraBucks back after spending $15; Gillette Fusion or Venus cartridges and razors, starting at $5.99, but $5 in ExtraBucks back after spending $15 (disposables excluded); and Crest Pro-Health toothpaste in 4.2-ounce tubes just 99 cents after ExtraBucks.
Look to save more using manufacturer’s coupons, too.
