What’s for dessert after those doorbuster specials?

Filed under General, Savvy Shopper by sherman smith at 1:24 am

All those Thanksgiving doorbuster deals at retailers and drug stores leave me hungry again for post-holiday leftovers, but there are decent prices this week on some items at area supermarkets and drug stores.

Shaw’s is running grand opening specials again for its Nashua Royal Ridge and Nashua Market Place stores, and the prices on 80 percent lean ground beef ($1.99 a pound, all packages) and certain Kellogg’s cereals, such as 16-ounce Frosted Mini-Wheats and 15-ounce Raisin Bran, (two boxes for $4, plus an extra savings through Printacoupon at Shaws.com) looked good. Shaw’s also is selling Progresso Classic soups at $1 each and there are manufacturer’s coupons out there. Also, value packs (3 pounds or more) of Swift assorted pork chops are $1.79 a pound.

Hannaford has boneless sirloin tips for $3.49 a pound and boneless Angus sirloin tips for $4.49 a pound.

Market Basket has Krakus polish ham at $3.99 a pound. Dannon yogurt in 6-ounce cups are 40 cents each, and there may be manufacturer’s coupons. Swiss Miss cocoa mix in 10-ounce packages is $1. Broccoli crowns are $1.29 a pound and 10-ounce bags of spinach are $1.29. Let’s raise our glasses to the $9.99 price on 12-packs of Ipswich, Shipyard or Smuttynose ales.

At Walgreen drug stores, look for the $1.79 flier coupon (limit two) for containers of All 2X Ultra laundry detergent (12 loads). Aries disposable lighters are four for $1 with flier coupon (limit four). Right Guard Professional deodorant is free after $1 manufacturer’s coupon and $5 mail-in rebate. Six-ounce tubes of Colgate Total Plus Whitening are free after $1 manufacturer’s coupon and $2 in Register Rewards (like CVS EasyBucks, to use on next purchase). Finally, the deal of the week is on Walgreen brand ibuprofen tablets or caplets in 50-count bottles, buy one at $3.99, get one free; that’s $2 a bottle. And there’s a flier coupon for 100-count bottles of Walgreen brand aspirin at two for $1 (limit four).

At CVS drug stores, varieties of Duracell multipacks are $3.99 after $2 in ExtraBucks, and try to use the $1.50 manufacturer’s coupon. Extreme Energy two-packs are free after $4.99 in ExtraBucks, offering a pick-me-up for worn-out present unwrappers.
