Celebrate the bargains and eat (mostly) healthy, too

Put on your party hats, shoppers, and enjoy some of the great celebratory values at area supermarkets and drugstores this week.
Tops on my to-do list is to stock up and save at any of five area Market Baskets, three in Nashua and one each in Hudson or Milford, where they are running some amazing specials to mark a grand reopening of the West Side Plaza, Nashua, store. Here are just some of those bargains: gallons of whole, skim, 1 percent or 2 percent milk for $1.99, live lobsters or Carando roast beef both for $3.99 a pound, 16-ounce boxes of Cheez-Its for $1.50, and green beans for 79 cents a pound. OK, we can pass on the Cheez-Its and still have a healthy shopping list started.
CVS drugstores are also running some great specials. If you’ll spend certain amounts on certain families of products, you’ll get a lot of ExtraBucks in return. For example, get $4 in ExtraBucks for $10 spent on Speed Stick and Colgate products. Spend $20 on products like Sudafed, Halls, Zyrtec, Claritin and NyQuil and get $10 in ExtraBucks (and use manufacturer’s coupons, too). Four 12-packs of A&W, Canada Dry and 7Up are just four for $9 after $3 in ExtraBucks. Also there are some great prices Monday only, most Halloween candy in fun-size bags just two for $3 and CVS whole cashews or mixed nuts just $2.50.
Kmart stores, at least the infamous “participating” ones, this week are doubling manufacturer’s coupons “up to and including $2 value,” which makes buying some “big-ticket” consumer goods, like diapers and Halloween candy real bargains. Plus, Kmart is discounting many brands of candy in fun- and snack-sizes.
Stop & Shop and Hannaford have selling tote bags of apples at 69 cents a pound and Hannaford also has boneless, skinless chicken breast in 3- to 5-pound packages for $1.89 a pound.
