Sweet deals and healthy ones, too

Looks like a few sweet deals this week at CVS drug stores and three area supermarkets.

Got candy? At least enough for the trick-or-treaters? Visit CVS and buy two 9.5- to 13.3-ounce bags of Mars candy (Milky Way, Snickers, etc.) for $3 and use a $1 off two manufacturer’s coupon. The deal requires an ExtraCare card. With the card, you’ll also get $2 back when you buy two Nature’s Bounty vitamins or supplements at buy one, get one, and there are coupons out there. Spend $15 on John Frieda products and get $5 in ExtraBucks. Also, Colgate Total Advanced in 4-ounce tubes is free after $2 in ExtraBucks and a $1.50 manufacturer’s coupon. Tampax tampons in a 40-count box with a free Venus razor will cost $3.99 after $2 in ExtraBucks.

Both Shaw’s and Market Basket have imported asparagus for $1.99 a pound. Shaw’s also is offering bags of coffee at 25 percent off, which might be a good deal if you’ve been following the prices. Finally, there’s a coupon for a free box of Post Honey Bunches of Oats when you buy four boxes of Post cereals, some of which are on sale at $2.

Stop & Shop has half-gallons of Tropicana orange juice at $2.50. Broccoli crowns, apples in tote bags and navel oranges are all 88 cents a pound. Beef roasts, either top, bottom or eye round, are at half-price. Perri Italian sausages in 16-ounce packages are $1.99. And Nestle fun-size candies ( Butterfinger, Crunch, etc.) in11.5- to 12.5-ounce bags are buy one, get one. Again, check the final price (maybe use a coupon) and compare that to the deal at CVS.

Market Basket has bananas for 39 cents a pound. One-pound loaves of its brand of white bread are 50 cents. Ocean Spray half-gallons of 100 percent cranberry juice are $2.50. One-pound packages of Market Basket brand bacon are $2.49. One-pound containers of Hood cottage cheese are $1.67 (look for a manufacturer’s coupon, too). Eight-packs of Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts are also $1.67, and also use a manufacturer’s coupon Pine Sol cleaner in the 48-ounce bottle is $2.50 (and look for a coupon). Finally, 12-packs of Shipyard ale, Killian’s Irish Red and Foster’s lager are $9.99.
