Time of the season to buy some items

Filed under Savvy Shopper, Uncategorized by sherman smith at 1:35 pm

Time to look for some weekly bargains, but how do we know we’re getting good deals?

Certain fliers, from Target, Kmart, Market Basket, CVS and Walgreen, will usually list the price of the item and possibly the amount saved and whether it’s the “lowest price of the season.” Of course, that blurb may be misleading just three weeks into fall, but it’s a start and better than nothing. Information on how much you’ll save is helpful in judging a good deal.

Speaking of allegedly seasonal low prices, Target has Fieldcrest towels and washcloths at $8.50 and a Sharp microwave or Black & Decker convection oven each for $75. Kmart has a variety of women’s bras, socks and panties by Hanes, Inspirations and Fruit of the Loom at a range of prices. Also, check the back of the Kmart flier for a $5 off $50 coupon.

A flier from Goodyear among the Sunday newspaper inserts listed instant savings through Oct. 31 on a variety of tires and a coupon for an oil change with Castrol GTX for $14.95.

Ah yes, food and drink. Market Basket has half-gallons of Florida’s Natural orange juice for $2.50, four-packs of Kraft mac and cheese for $2.99, center cut boneless pork chops for $2.59, new 32-ounce packages of Progresso broth at $2 (and use the $1off manufacturer’s coupon), 50-ounce container of Purex laundry detergent for $2.50, and 24-bottle cases of Heineken, Samuel Adams or Corona beer for $19.99.

Hannaford has broccoli crowns for 99 cents a pound and value packs of rib and sirloin end pork chops for $1.49 a pound.

Shaw’s has cans of Progresso Classics soups for $1 and 15-ounce cans of Dinty Moore beef stew for $1. Check the back of the flier for the coupon to save $5 off 10 participating General Mills products, including Yoplait YO-Plus yogurt for $2, boxes of Green Giant veggies for $1.33 and Betty Crocker brownie mix for 88 cents, for which there probably are manufacturer’s coupons, too.

CVS has Bic Soleil razors or cartridges priced at $1.99 after $4 in ExtraBucks and Always Infinity pads free after $4.99 in bonus bucks. Also there’s a Breeze2 blood glucose monitoring system that’s free after ExtraBucks and mail-in rebate.

Walgreen has circular coupons for Progresso Traditional soups at four cans for $5, and bags of Ricola cough drops for $1.29, limit three (and use coupons), plus boxes of Playtex tampons are two for $6 after instant coupon.
