Super deals at a supermarket and a drugstore

Filed under Savvy Shopper by sherman smith at 3:05 pm

The best bargains in the area this week appear to be at CVS and Market Basket.

The drugstore chain will reward its loyalty ExtraCare cardholders with 12-packs of Pepsi priced at four for $9 (after $3 in ExtraBucks). Cardholders who spend $25 on Cottonelle bath tissue, Viva towels, Huggies diapers, Kleenex, Kotex, Depend or Poise will get $10 back in ExtraBucks. If you buy any 2.8-ounce Adidas antiperspirant, you’ll get $4 back in bonus bucks (and there may be manufacturer’s coupons to use). A 16.9-ounce bottle of Nivea for Men body wash is free after $4.99 in ExtraBucks (and try to use coupons). Finally, if you buy five bottles of 32-ounce Gatorade or 1-liter Propel, you’ll get $3 back as a bonus, leaving the cost at 40 cents a bottle.

At the Market Basket chain, you can get Mrs. Budd’s 36-ounce chicken pies for $3.99, Uno flatbread pizzas at three for $10 and fresh haddock again for $4.99 a pound. Two of the three vegetables that may have benefit offsetting cancer cells – broccoli and cauliflower – are on sale; broccoli crowns are 99 cents a pound and cauliflower heads are $1.50. (By the way, cabbage is the third vegetable that may have cancer-fighting qualities.) Finally, romaine lettuce heads are 79 cents.

There are other good deals out there in the area this week. Stop & Shop supermarkets are selling cups of Dannon yogurts at 35 cents. Nearly quart-size jars of Francesco Rinaldi pasta sauce, which hold 26 ounces now, are 99 cents (limit six), and Barilla pasta in boxes from 12 ounces to 16 ounces are 75 cents (with a limit of 12).

Shaw’s has a good price on California green grapes (88 cents a pound), and Hannaford is selling boneless sirloin tips for $3.97 a pound.

There are a couple of good deals also at Walgreen drugstores. Bic lighters, either the long-tipped ones for lighting fires or grills or bonus six-packs of classic cigarette-size, are two for $5 with the flier coupon (and there may also be manufacturer’s coupons). Crest Whitestrips in the 56-pack are just $11.99 after an $8 Register Reward coupon to use on your next purchase; look for manufacturer’s coupons, too.
