A week for bananas, apples and a General Mills offer
Filed under Savvy Shopper by sherman smith at 12:14 am
This looks like a good week to be buying fruit at supermarkets throughout the area.
Both Market Basket and Shaw’s are selling bananas for 39 cents a pound, Market Basket lists 1-pound containers of strawberries for $2.50 and California cantaloupes for $1.50 and Hannaford has tote bags of McIntosh apples priced at 69 cents a pound.
For the coupon clippers among us, Shaw’s has another good deal on the back of its weekly circular: a coupon worth $5 off $25 in General Mills products, including Cheerios, Progresso soups, Pop-Secret popcorn and Romano’s Macaroni Grill favorites, and there are manufacturers coupons to use, too.
Some meat deals are out there, too. Hannaford has 80 percent lean ground beef in 3- to 5-pound packages for $1.89 a pound. Market Basket has fresh haddock filets for $4.99 a pound.
For deals at drug stores, check the Walgreen and Rite Aid fliers. Rite Aid has Post cereals on sale for $1.88 and tubes of Crest toothpaste in a variety of sizes for 99 cents after rebate (the $1 off coupons should make it free). Walgreen has quarts of Powerade sports drinks for 79 cents (limit six) and there may be coupons. Welch’s grape juice and Mott’s apple juice in 64-ounce containers are $2.50 (limit two). And there are instant coupons in the September booklet to save $1 off Bic Comfort 3 or Soleil disposable shavers and for Reach toothbrushes or Johnson & Johnson dental floss.
SAVVY ALERT: Are you double-checking your monthly E-ZPass statements? I just found a $20, class 5 charge assessed to my account after crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge in mid-August. The only problem is I was driving a Toyota Camry, not a five-axle rig as the charge would indicate. The difference is $17, I was told.
