Deals to celebrate ahead of the holiday

Filed under Savvy Shopper by sherman smith at 11:45 am

You can put yourself in a holiday mood for the July Fourth weekend with some terrific savings on a variety of food and beverage savings.

Anyone for root beer floats?

On the cover of its weekly circular, Target is advertising a free 48-ounce container of Edy’s ice cream (on sale at $3) with the purchase of three 12-packs of A&W or Sunkist sodas, which are on sale at three for $8 ($2.67 each). Nothing against Target, but you’ll note that the incredible shrinking Edy’s container seems to be on another weight-loss kick. Edy’s, which once sold in real half-gallons, was in 56-ounce containers until recently. Ah well, easy come, easy go.

There is savings to be had on breakfast foods, too. At Kmart, you can get 14-ounce boxes of Cheerios, 12.8-ounce boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and other General Mills cereals, fruit snacks or breakfast bars for $1.49 each when you buy four. There are unexpired coupons for $1 off two or three boxes out there in clipping land, too.

Walgreens has a way to start our mornings right with $2 in Register Rewards on four varieties of Post cereals, including Honey Bunches of Oats and Grape-Nuts (13- to 24-ounce boxes), which are on sale for two for $5. Those reward printouts are good on your next purchase but have expiration dates.

Something else in the Walgreens circular that caught my eye is a TheraBreath Starter Kit, priced at $10, which is free after mail-in rebate. After all that cereal and ice-cream floats, we’ll need something to improve our breath, and this product comes with Dr. Katz’s guarantee. And there’s a Quattro razor for women ($3 value) offered free after purchase, but the ad on Page 14 of the circular is a bit confusing. You may get the razor free after buying Dove Ultimate Clear deodorant at $4.

Pepsi 12-packs are on sale this week at five for $11 at RiteAid (with a coupon) and at Kmart as well as at four for $9 (after ExtraBucks) at CVS.

The CVS chain is also offering specials on Bic Soliel razors or cartridges, with $5 in ExtraBucks, on Right Guard Professional Strength deodorant ($5 in ExtraBucks) or on Carefree, Stayfree or OB liners, pads and tampons ($1.50 in ExtraBucks). Look for manufacturer’s coupons you can use on these purchases, too.

The Savvy Shopper appears on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Sherman Smith, Telegraph copy editor, can be reached at 594-6420 or ssmith@nashuatelegraph.com.
