Get a charge out of some battery deals

Filed under Savvy Shopper by sherman smith at 6:39 pm

Coffee and Coke drinkers who like to eat cereal, wear clean clothes and get a clean shave should plan to stop at CVS by Saturday, June 14.

The drug store chain is offering Extra Bucks to their loyalty customers for a number of weekly specials, including four 12-packs of Coca-Cola products for $8, a Schick Quattro Titanium razor or four-pack of cartridges for $4.50 (before you use a $2 off manufacturer’s coupon from the Sunday inserts, too) and $20 worth of General Mills cereal, including Cheerios and Total, or Folger’s coffee for $10 (after Extra Bucks). Bottles of Fab laundry detergent for 32 loads are just $2 with the ExtraCare card. Two-packs of Oral-B toothbrushes are “free” after $7 in Extra Bucks, and you can get $2 back in Extra Bucks on Coppertone products. There are also savings of $2 off four-packs of Energizer rechargeable AA or AAA batteries (plus possible extra savings by using coupons).

If you’re a Duracell battery kind of person, go to Rite Aid for the drug store chain’s deal this week on rechargeable AA or AAA four-packs. Buy $20 worth of Duracell rechargeable batteries or chargers and get a $10 rebate by mail or from an online filing (meaning no stamp needed). There are also manufacturer’s coupons you can use, if you’ve been clipping regularly. The Savvy Shopper believes rechargeable batteries are the way to go, both from the reusable aspect and by not having to keep buying and throwing away single-use batteries all the time, what with the “appetites” of digital cameras, flashlights, etc.

Need sporting goods equipment, dads or others? There’s a “$10 off $50 purchase” coupon with this week’s Sports Authority flier.

Finally, a couple of notes from supermarket fliers. First, Market Basket is selling gallons of whole, skim, 1% and 2% milk through Saturday, June 14, at $2.89. OK, that’s only 10 cents lower than normal, but try to find that deal anywhere else. The supermarket chain is also selling 16-ounce packages of Land O Lakes American singles for $2.50.

It look as if Shaw’s supermarkets has stopped distributing its weekly fliers late in the week with newspapers as other markets do. But you can still see the weekly specials by viewing the circulars online at http://www.shaws.com/save/online_circular/index.html.

The Savvy Shopper also appears in The Telegraph on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Sherman Smith, Telegraph copy editor, can be reached at 594-6420 or ssmith@nashuatelegraph.com.
