Spend money, make money, get some bread
Filed under Savvy Shopper by sherman smith at 12:39 pm
Nothing ventured, nothing gained goes the old saying. This week, shoppers at a number of retail chains in the area can earn up to $5, $10 or $30 for spending amounts at the stores, and there’s a guarantee they’ll like the taste of a loaf of bread or else.
Kmart’s circular for June 1-7 promises Kmart savings certificate coupons of $3, $6 or $10 if you spend $20, $30 or $40 on certain participating brands, including Huggies, Scott, Dov, Cottonelle, Kotex and others. See the ad on pages 34 and 35. There should be manufacturer’s coupons available to apply as well.
CVS this week is offering $5 ExtraBucks (for ExtraCare cardholders) on $20 purchases of Pampers products. The drug store chain also is advertising two 11-ounce bottles of Dawn for $1 (after an ExtraBuck back), and some Dawn coupons just came with P&G saver back in the Sunday papers. Another savvy deal, listed on the flier’s cover, is Bumble Bee tuna, solid white albacore packed in water in 6-ounce cans, for 66 cents each.
Rite-Aid is holding up a $30 free gift card to try to tempt shoppers to transfer a prescription to its pharmacies. The ad is on page 12 of its weekly circular. There’s a limit of one redemption in the past six months.
Finally, Market Basket this week is selling large brown or white eggs at $1.20 a dozen as well as Carando rare roast beef at $4 a pound and cooked ham at $3 a pound. Inside the circular, you’ll find two brands of coffee on sale, 10- to 12-ounce bags of New England coffee for $4 (check Sunday’s coupons for $1.50 on 2 bags) and 11.5- to 13-ounce containers of Folgers (and there may be coupons from the past couple of weeks on that, too). Lastly, the supermarket is pricing 24-ounce loaves of Freihofer’s country breads at $2, and this deal can’t be beat. That’s because Freihofer’s is running a taste-satisfaction guarantee through June 30 on country white and country potato (as well as Canadian oat and stone ground whole wheat) and offering a full refund.
