Here comes the Fourth and supermarket chains are ready, but pick your markets carefully to get the best bargains.
Stop & Shop, in Hudson and Milford, both have 12 ears of corn for $1.99, sirloin steak tips for $3.99 a pound, Coke product 12-packs at five for $11 (must buy five), whole seedless watermelons (13- to 16-pound average) for $3.99, and Edy’s ice cream in shrunken half-gallons (48- 56-ounce containers) for $1.99 (limit three).
Hannaford in Hudson, Londonderry and Nashua has 3- to 4-pound packages of boneless NY sirloin for $2.99 a pound, but shoppers who go to Bedford or Manchester markets will save 10 cents a pound on boneless and skinless chicken breast (from $1.89 a pound) and $1.20 a pound on Krakus imported ham (from $4.99 a pound) not to mention savings, too, on mangos, cucumbers and Vidalia onions.
Shaw’s gives its Milford shoppers a break by charging $1.79 for boneless chicken breast in 3-pound or greater value packs (versus $1.99 in Nashua and Londonderry) and $2.50 for Tropicana orange juice in half-gallons (versus $2.77).
Market Basket has live lobster for $5.99 a pound, hamburg or hotdog rolls in 12 packs for 99 cents, store brand shoestring fries in 24-ounce packages for $1.50, Heinz squeeze ketchup in 40-ounce bottles for $2, romaine lettuce for 79 cents, pineapples for $2 and Fresh Express salad 12-ounce packages for 99 cents. Also, Cabot cottage cheese in 1-pound containers is $1.50 and store-brand orange dream bars are $1.69 in the 30-ounce 12-pack.
Always try to use manufacturers coupons to save even more.
