Recreational youth sports leagues are an essential part of any town, no matter the population. They are not only the feeder programs for junior high and high school teams, but also play a key role in the healthiness of the town’s youngest generation.

Rarely making the sports headlines, and sometimes forgotten about, the class L junior varsity basketball teams will begin a four-day tournament beginning Saturday, March 7, 2009, hosted at Manchester West High School. The single elimination tourney will end Tuesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. with the championship game.

If you drove by Spaulding High School last night, you probably slowed down for a second look to see if that mud wrestling going on last night in the pouring rain. After all, the guys were caked with mud from head to toe, and the ladies were standing along the bleachers to get a glimpse of the action.
