Posted by bob hammerstrom

Are you looking for a winter baseball camp for your child in southern New Hampshire? My son, Brandon attended the camp below, before the start of his last year in Little League. He convinced himself he would work hard and make the NH Grizzlies 13-year-old traveling baseball team. Well, he did, and he’s now on [...]

Athletic fields bring back memories

Posted by bob hammerstrom

Do you remember your Pop Warner football days, Little League moments or Biddy Basketball games long ago?
I have many memories of my games as a child, and others I covered as a photographer for The Telegraph. Some are good ones, and others I’d rather forget, if I could. For me, it’s not the games themselves that stick in my head, but the events surrounding them. Unfortunately, we don’t get to choose which memories to keep, or forget.

Silly Athletic Costumes For Halloween

Posted by bob hammerstrom

Are you looking for a Halloween costume idea? How about dressing up as your favorite athlete, with a little humor thrown in.
**How about a Brett Favre costume. You could “pass” out treats instead of receiving it. If you’re anything like him, you’ll definitely throw the candy in the wrong hands!
**Tom Brady would make a good Halloween character too. No need for a uniform there. Just limp a little, and make sure you are accompanied by at least one woman (preferably pregnant).

But, surprise, surprise. My wife called me on her way to work this morning. She was [...]

Manny Ramirez may return to Fenway?

Posted by bob hammerstrom

Wouldn’t it be great to put Lester on the mound against Manny Ramirez? That may happen if the Dodgers can take their playoff series from the Phillies. It didn’t happen for the Dodgers last night, dropping game one, 3-2.
Some young fans wouldn’t recognize the former Red Sox homerun slugger, with his hair cut short. It [...]

Superstitions in sports - rituals, or bad habits?

Posted by bob hammerstrom

Do you notice your young athletes picking up habits while competing on the ball fields? Do they tip their hats, spit on their fingers, make signs in the dirt, or pick their nose before every play? Well, the later is just a bad habit they will grow out of, maybe!
Some of the best pro athletes [...]

You hear a thud in the middle of the night, then another, and another. Should panic set in? After all, your toddler has just made the move from his crib, to a new bed. As you swing open your son’s bedroom door, a smile appears on your face. Your “baby” is tossing a baseball off the bedroom [...]
