Posted by bob hammerstrom

After all, the guys were caked with mud from head to toe, and the ladies were standing along the bleachers to get a glimpse of the action.

Homecoming in a small town

Posted by bob hammerstrom

There are many positives to growing up in a small town. The opportunities are more plentiful for athletes where the populations are larger, but the sense of community and closeness of friendships is stronger where I grew up, in Whitehall, Wisconsin.

Baseball in October - Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Posted by bob hammerstrom

There’s almost nothing better than sitting at the ballpark for a wet, cold and windy baseball tournament. You know the kind, where the rain blows across the field sideways, the hot chocolate is cooled off by the time you walk back to the frozen metal bleachers, and you’re wearing so many layers that you look like a sumo wrestler!

I may have missed [...]

Football players have it too easy these days

Posted by bob hammerstrom

Rubber turf, state-of-the-art helmets and pads, and high-tech water machines on the field! What ever happened to grass, mud, leather helmets, and the good ole fashioned garden hose for water breaks?
Times have changed I guess, and for the better. I watched the Memorial Crusaders and Trinity High School football teams last night on their first day [...]
