Defensive roll: defined as taking one in the Gluteus Maximus

Baseball players learn the technique at a young age. When the ball is thrown at you, turn your cheeks forward and take one for the team. So, when a New Hampshire Fisher Cats batter sent a line drive off the end of his bat yesterday into section 103 at Merchants.Com Stadium in Manchester, my son Brandon did as all good baseball players do, and instinctively turned his backside to the ball.
The next thing he knew, and usher was asking him how he was. His answer should have been ‘embarassed, humiliated, or sore.’ But, he wasn’t looking for any first aid treatment. Rather, he handed the ball to his friend, Megan and sat down slowly.
A few minutes later a text came over his phone from his friends and Jenna and Kelly. “How does your butt feel?,” they asked from a few sections away. All he could do was laugh. After all, he was the butt of the joke, or at least his derriere was.
So, I wonder what excuse he’ll give the Crusaders football coach today for having a sore cheek.
