Flip flop flub or hit by foul ball…Which hurt more?

The NH Grizzlies (15U) baseball team opened it’s season Saturday with a loss to the Mavericks, and their team manager in the hospital!

I wasn’t there when team manager, A.J. Jackson injured his ankle walking up a set of stairs in flip flops. How do you do that? But, I can say it wasn’t his fault for not moving fast enough when my son, Brandon ripped a foul ball down the third base line, hitting Coach A.J.’s ankle in the same spot. Double-Ouch!

After a few minutes on the ground, and probably some choice words we didn’t hear, A.J. was up and limping. On Brandon’s next at-bat, coach A.J. stood by the other team’s dugout temporarily, to get Brandon smiling again. Brandon later hit a foul ball to me in the bleachers. What’s the chances of that!

Coach A.J. made a trip to the hospital after the game, and is wearing an air cast until his deep ankle bruises heal. I’m sure A.J. will be giving Brandon a hard time (teasing) at practice this week. At least coach can say he was hit by a ball when asked about the cast, rather than admitting it was really from a self-inflicted flip flop foul-up (say that three times fast).
