“Raising athletes” - Thinking outside the bun

Filed under Family, General, High School Sports, Parents by bob hammerstrom at 9:57 am

What is this “Raising Athletes” blog all about? A recent comment on a blog entry questioned why this blog has several entries about Manchester Memorial sports, and fewer Nashua postings. The answer is simple - because I attend my son’s games at Memorial, and he plays sports year-round.

Unlike our local sports news coverage in The Telegraph and on www.nashuatelegraph.com, this Raising Athletes blog is about my experiences as a dad, and those of the guest bloggers, raising children involved in sports. Although my bias will be for Manchester Memorial, where my son attends school, I try to write about a wide selection of topics that appeal to viewers in all sports. There will be occasional game or tournament results, and I do stray into pro sports once in awhile, but most of my writing is about my observations.

As this blog grows, I will be bringing on more guest bloggers, like Marcia Griffith of Amherst, who blogs about her experiences as a soccer mom. Maybe someday there will be a Nashua resident blogging.

The viewership of Raising Athletes reaches much further than the city limits of Nashua. Many of the blog comments have come from out of state. Our sports department does an excellent job covering the local teams, and Raising Athletes will give you a sports parent’s view on athletics.
