Bored with board games?

Is the thrill of victory in your blood? Not in mine. I got my ____ kicked this weekend by my wife, Nancy and son, Brandon. I couldn’t hit a bucket if it was right in front of me! And, that ball didn’t like to drop in my player’s hole, despite me ”accidently” bumping the court, and occassionaly blowing the ball when Brandon looked the other way. Shhhhhhhhhhhh!

It’s fun to bring out the old board games to play with kids. This weekend I pulled out “Bas-ket.” While it’s not played on a flat board like Monopoly or Scrabble, it’s still made of cardboard and played with a ping pong ball. I think it was from the mid-70’s.

My wife, Nancy and son, Brandon go head-to-head in the Granite State Work Championship of "Bask-ket" at our house this weekend. I was knocked out of the tournament after losing to both of them.

It’s pretty easy to play, but difficult for those who are “challenged” with a soft touch. Spring-loaded levers on the side of the court launch the ping pong ball toward the little metal hoops on the end boards. The score is kept on each end with cardboard wheels.

The gym floor has the level playing surface of a wood floor with water problems. It’s warped! So, the ball rolls all over the place. I kept launching mine out of the arena. I guess I shouldn’t have lifted weights as a youngster!

Brandon eventually beat Nancy by only a few points. I want a rematch!
