NH Girl Headed To PP&K Finals

Filed under Fall sports, Football, General, NFL by bob hammerstrom at 4:30 pm

They won’t be booing her in Charlotte, N.C., this weeked the way they did in Indianapolis last year. The Associated Press reports that Stratham teen Anna Grant will be going to the NFL Pepsi - Punt, Pass & Kick competition Saturday, before the National Football Conference playoff game.

For those of you who don’t know what the competition is all about, it’s a three-part skills contest. Participants punt, pass and kick a football off a tee. Distance and accuracy are both measured. If the ball lands to the left or right of the tape measure, that distance is subtracted from the distance. All three measurements are added up for the final score. Kids compete in age groups as well.

She competed last year in Indianapolis sporting a New England Patriots jersey, where the crowd booed her, according to the AP. Never did like those Colts fans!

I remember competing in the PP&K competition in Wisconsin. I won our local event for my age group (11-year-olds) and went on to the next level. That’s where my skill level ended. There was a girl, Mary Colburn, from my hometown or Whitehall, that won her age group as well.

Watch out boys, the AP says this girl is ranked number one going in to the event!
