Sports Illustrated or Playboy…What’s under your son’s bed?

Have you checked under your son’s bed lately? Close your eyes while you reach under there, cause you might just pull out a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, or a Playboy magazine! But, what’s the difference?
A few years ago my in-laws bought me a subscription to Sports Illustrated magazine for Christmas (Thanks mom and dad!). And when that extra bonus magazine came (You know, the one that makes the mailperson blush when she hands it to you in the driveway), I had to chuck it in the garbage before my son caught eyes of it. After all, he was only in fourth or fifth grade.
Now while you moms gasp at the word Playboy, maybe you aught to take at peek at the Sports Illustrated web site before you buy that subscription for you husband or son this year. If your internet browser flashes alarms and warnings, there’s a reason for it - lotsa skin!
Yes there’s some great sports stories up there, just like the subscribers say about Playboy. And, I like the NFL team pages links on the front of the home page. You can find out anything you want to know there about the New England Patriots. But what about that picture on the right side of the home page - the one with the woman in her bikini, white her blouse open? Would you let your son click on that link to the S.I. 2008 Swimsuit calendar?
A couple years ago my son started receiving Sports Illustrated - For Kids as a gift. Now he’s reading ESPN Magazine. They’re both good reading for the young athlete.
And yes, I did check under my son’s bed. Thankfully, I only found dust balls!
