Frostbite and Football For Cougars Fans

Filed under Fall sports, Family, Fans, Football, General, High School Sports, Parents by bob hammerstrom at 1:09 pm

What do you get when you combine football and the month of November in New England?

Long rides to towns up north where the boat ramp parking lot is larger that the high school’s, burly fans donning snowmobile suits, and frostbite! At least that’s what I found Saturday at the state Class VI Football Championship in Franklin, N.H.

Layered in clothing from head to toe, the families and friends of the Campbell High School football squad braved the strong winds and freezing temperatures to cheer on the Cougars. The Litchfield boys lost the game 8-0, and I lost the feeling of my fingers by half-time.

Wind whipped across the field, with an occasional snow flake, and the Golden Tornadoes claimed the frozen tundra in the first-ever Class VI championship.

I commend the fans for their diehardness, never letting down on the sidelines chatter to the very end. The red paint on their faces blended right in to the windburn.

It was great to see such a big turnout of fans for the game. Click HERE for a Mycapture photo gallery on www.nashuatelegraph.com, to see many more photos from the game.
