Flipping over sports

Very seldom do I run into parents of athletes I’ve photographed while working here at The Telegraph. It’s even more rare to meet the parent of a player who remembers my name 8 years later.

I have to write down people’s names with my memory. A couple weeks ago I met the mother of a former Alvirne High School soccer player who remembered my name, and the picture I took of her daughter in 2000.

I was covering an event at Alvirne for Hudson fifth-graders, and introduced myself to a teacher, Ann Desrosiers, from Hills-Garrison Elementary. She immediately asked if I had taken an award-winning photo of her daughter, Leslie upside-down on the soccer field.

Of course I remembered the photo. Leslie was inbounding the ball, doing forward flips against Nashua High School. I had never seen anything like that before. The moment made a great image. I don’t recall what photo contest it won, but I did enter it in several. It’s one of my favorites!

Now, when Ann took the wheel of a front-end loader, during a demonstration in the shop area of the school, I naturally snapped a few frames of her. I hope your co-workers don’t tease you too much Ann! Enjoy!

Watch out for that driver
