Search for new and used cars from NH dealers.

Just how close do you wanna get to a police dog?

Yes, he could have used a breath mint, as “Bolo” a Pelham police dog in training, walked up to me to check out the camera while I photographed him getting groomed today, May 13, 2009, during a training session in searches.

Police dogs from throughout New Hampshire were in Hudson, right next door to our newspaper, to conduct training searches inside a vacant building, and around the industrial park. After photographing a Hudson police dog doing a search inside, I spotted Bolo, a Belgian Malinois, being brushed by his handler in training, Pelham Police Officer Dale Robeck.

After seeing the Hudson canine, “Turco” bite into the thick arm protector of an officer inside, I was a little intimidated to sit on the ground in front of a four-legged animal with big teeth. I was quick to learn that these dogs are trained to react on commands from their handler. Although, Bolo wasn’t as affectionate as my golden retriever, “Penny,” who licks visitors like a Popsicle, he was curious of the camera.

The picture was taken with a Canon EOS-1, Mark III and 16-35mm lens at ASA 200. You can find an article by Al McKeon in Thursday’s Telegraph, with more pictures of the police dogs.
